There are quite a number of couples who have the right decision not to have children of their own. Most of these people’s decision is been influenced by several conditions of which some of them are health complications.

If you have no health complications preventing you from having kids of your own and you have decided not to have kids, then I recommend you take a look at some of the benefits associated with having children of your own.

Below are some benefits of having children;

1. Children make you happier.

Between 1981 and 2005, a study conducted by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research found a direct correlation between children and happiness for parents over the age of 40.

200,000 parents from 86 countries were surveyed, and the results showed that from age 40 going, parents with 1 to 3 children were happier than those without offspring. After age 50, parents with children were happier than childless couples, regardless of the number of kids they have.

Parents have long suspected that their offspring make them happier, and now there’s finally proof to support their claims. Maybe it’s because taking care of them as they grow older is quite easier.

"Children may be a long-term investment in happiness, seeing the age trend of happiness independent of sex, income, partnership status, and even fertility rates show that one has to explain it from the perspective of the stage of parents' life," says Mikko Myrskyla, the author of the study.

2. Brings Couples Closer.

Children bring couples much closer to each other. They are a symbol of love between you and your partner. They play the role of adhesive in married that controls or prevent couples from splitting. The entire feeling of being counted among parents is priceless.

3. Improves Your Knowledge.

As you go through the journey of parenting, the ‘why’ question is inescapable and this will keep you on your toes to always prepare so as not to disappoint your kids.

When you are lucky enough to have smart and intelligent kids, they will ask reasonable questions, and you have no option than to answer them.

Finding solutions and answers to some of these questions become a great learning experience for the parents and helps you add up to the knowledge you already possess.

Healthwise, parents are more likely to take very good care of themselves, because they realize the care of their kids is entrusted to them.

According to Marcus Goldman, M.D., author of The Joy of Fatherhood, “Fatherhood comes with a lot of great health perks, Not only does it inspire men to take better care of themselves physically, but it also fills them with a sense of purpose that genuinely enhances their psychological well-being.”

5. Increases your self-esteem.

The joy of having your kid looks up at you and say, “You’re the best mom/dad in the whole world,” or “Daddy, I want to be just like you when I grow up”, boost your self-esteem as a parent and makes you want to do more to please them.

“To be an integral part of your child’s life, you may have to give up a few things that once seemed important. But once a man makes that commitment to his family, there are enormous rewards: You see the positive effect you have on your kids, and that, in turn, affects how you feel about yourself and your success as a parent–and as a person.” Says Dr Gold man.

6. Elderly Care.

Children are the best people to take care of their parents when they grow old. If you took the responsibly of parenting very serious, your children will be there for you in times of needs.
