Bad breath is a health problem that can happen to anyone at any time. People who breathe through their mouth while asleep normally experience bad breath in the morning. Bad breath in the morning is a normal thing, but when it persists throughout the day then you should consider it a problem. Bad breath, medically known as halitosis, refers to an unpleasant smell that comes out of the mouth of a person. No one is interested in getting bad breath and no one will intentionally cause his/her own bad breath. Below are some main causes of bad breath: 1. The food and drink we take. 2. Dry mouth. 3. Tobacco consumption or smoking. 4. Medical conditions. 5. Poor oral hygiene. A TINY JOKE Dave was cleaning the pilot's cockpit when he saw a book entitled, "HOW TO FLY AN AIRPLANE FOR BEGINNERS, Volume 1" He opened the 1st page which said: To start the engine, press the red button. He did so, and the airplane engine started. He was happy, and opened the next page. On the next page it reads: To set airplane moving, please press the blue button. He did so and the plane started moving at an amazing speed. He wanted to fly, so he opened the 3rd page which reads: To let airplane fly, please press the green button. He quickly pressed the button and the plane started to fly. He was excited. After 20 minutes of flying, he was satisfied and wanted to land so he decided to go to the 4th page. He fainted after reading the instruction on the 4th page. The 4th page reads: To learn how to land a plane, please buy Volume 2 at the nearest bookshop. You can get more of this joke on any post/article from this site.

Bad breath, medically known as halitosis, refers to an unpleasant smell that comes out of the mouth of a person. No one is interested in getting bad breath and no one will intentionally cause his/her own bad breath.

Below are some main causes of bad breath:

1. The food and drink we take.

Strongly flavoured foods like onions and garlic affect the smell that comes out of the mouth. If you most of the time skip brushing your teeth, food debris remaining in the mouth may attract bad breath causative bacteria which may lead to bad breath.

Drinks like coffee and alcohol are also capable of causing bad breath.

2. Dry mouth.

This can be caused by continuously breathing through the mouth or salivary gland problems. The saliva in the mouth helps to clear away food particles.

Therefore, having a dry mouth will reduce the cleaning of food particle in the mouth leaving some food particles behind for the bacteria in the mouth to act on it.

3. Tobacco consumption or smoking.

Tobacco is capable of adding up to bad breath. Users of tobacco stand the chance to suffer from gum related diseases which put them at risk of developing oral cancer. These gum related diseases are also causes of bad breath.

4. Medical conditions.

Bad breath is considered a symptom of some diseases. Diseases like diabetes, lung infections, bronchitis, kidney and liver diseases may have a link with bad breath.

5. Poor oral hygiene.

Poor oral hygiene is probably the most common cause of bad breath. If the teeth are not properly and regularly brushed or flossed, food particles that are left in your mouth, between your teeth, your gums, and on your tongue will be broken down by the bacteria in your mouth which may result to Halitosis.
